Frantoio Marsicani

A family mill registered with the Salerno chamber of commerce in 1928 and modernised in 2007, working ultra-centenarian olive trees inside the Cilento National Park. Gambero Rosso named it Italy’s mill of the year in 2024 — the third time it had taken the title.

The estate

The native cultivars are Pisciottana, Frantoio, Rotondella and Leccino, and the mill also works Itrana and Coratina for others. Around 1,500 quintals of olives pass through a year, of which roughly a hundred become the house extra virgin — about five thousand bottles plus tins. Three full-time sensory evaluators work on site.

The published labels are Alter Ego, Viride, NU-EVO, Algoritmo and Plusvalore, and the mill’s DOP oil is Cilento DOP. The label credited in the World’s Best Olive Oils ranking, "Opera Nostra Campania IGP", does not appear in that range, and we have flagged it on the oil page rather than assume a match.
