An independent library of European extra virgin olive oil. Every entry names its producer, cultivar, region and harvest, says where the information came from, and says plainly when our panel has not tasted it.
How the library works
What a listing here does and does not claimWe do not charge a producer to be listed and we do not take submissions in exchange for coverage. An oil is here because we bought it, or because it placed in a competition we follow.
A competition placing links to the competition. A polyphenol figure says who published it — the producer, an importer, or nobody. Where a number has no source, the page says so instead of printing one.
Most oils here are catalogue entries carrying a competition record and no score at all. Those pages say "our panel has not tasted this oil yet" and show no stars. We never fill the box with a guess.
Some oils are stocked at olijfoliemarkt.nl and carry an "In our shop" badge. It is a disclosure, not a recommendation — nothing about a rating changes because an oil is or is not on the shelf.

Why 250 mg/kg is the number that matters
EU Regulation 432/2012 permits an antioxidant health claim on an olive oil only where it carries at least 250 mg/kg of hydroxytyrosol and its derivatives. Below that figure the claim is not allowed, whatever else the label says.
We do not yet commission our own laboratory analysis. Where a producer or importer publishes a measured figure we print it and name who measured it; where nobody publishes one, the oil's page says exactly that rather than estimating.
