Terracuza

Giacomo Nieddu farms twenty-five separate terraced plots in the Marghine range, recovered from abandonment on steep granite hillsides held by dry-stone walls. Everything is done by hand, because nothing else fits, and the whole operation makes about four thousand litres a year.

The estate

About 2,500 trees averaging some 150 years old, some reported at up to six hundred, in plots of between seventy and a thousand trees each at roughly 300–700 m with south-western exposure. The cultivars are Bosana and Cariasina, with Tonda di Cagliari for the table. Certification is organic, through Suolo e Salute.

The farm has no mill of its own: olives are taken to a partner mill and cold-extracted on a two-phase system within twelve hours of picking. A second label, Ozzastrera, carries the Bosana monovarietal, and the farm also runs nomadic beekeeping.
