The native Aegean variety in the Hermus range, and the one the producer calls its strongest. Picked green in September. Green apple, rocket, cress, green tea and fresh herbs, with what the producer describes as a distinct but balanced bitterness and a pleasant pungency; the US listing calls it medium-intense fruity. Sold as USDA Organic on the producer’s US site; organic status is not stated on the Turkish site.

Where it's from

Locator map: Köprübaşı, Manisa, on the Gediz plain inland from the Aegean

Memecik is the oil olive of Aydın and Muğla; here it is grown further north on the Gediz plain and picked early, which gives it the green, bitter style rather than the softer Aegean norm.
