Kyklopas
Greece’s north-eastern corner, where the olive barely grows: Argyris and Niki Kelidis’s mill at Makri, outside Alexandroupoli, has pressed since 1982 and the company is the mill. Some 12,000 trees, 2,000 of them organic, of the local Makri variety — grown almost nowhere else — go into early-picked oils under PDO Makris, with Picual and Koroneiki in the blend. Athena gave Ages Organic Double Gold and Best of Thrace in 2025 and Ages Limited Reserve Gold and Best of Thrace in 2026, both in the competition’s own results.

The estate
Hectares and harvest months are not published; the style is agourelaio, early harvest. A producer news post gives one lot at 812 mg/kg polyphenols, 0.13% acidity and 2.8 peroxide with sensory medians of fruity 6.3, bitter 3.4, pungent 3.8 — undated and without a method, so it is quoted on the oil page as a producer figure and not given a meter. The current 2025/26 lot is listed by a retailer as “awaiting results”.
Other medals the producer lists — Olivalue Gold 2025, Berlin Platinum 2025 for the blend, Istanbul IOOC Platinum 2025, Anatolian IOOC Gold 2026 — are as the producer states them. No NYIOOC result for 2025 or 2026 appears on its awards page.
