Oleum Crete — Kydonakis Bros

Two brothers’ mill on the Messara plain, Crete’s largest southern olive basin between the Psiloritis massif and the Asterousia range. Kydonakis Bros has pressed here since 1983 and now runs an 8,000 m² production and bottling plant taking in ten tonnes an hour, malaxing at no more than 27 °C for no more than forty minutes, certified FSSC 22000. The oils are Koroneiki under PDO Messara, with an organic twin, styled soft and balanced rather than bitter. The company reports exports to 49 countries.

The estate

Tympaki, on the road along the plain; coordinates are the producer’s own. Hectares and tree counts are not published. The early-harvest line is picked “in the first weeks of the harvest, while the fruit is still green”, the producer states, without naming months.

PDO Messara certificate POC/2403-20889.13 and EU organic code GR-BIO-15.300-0079890 for the Bio version, both by the producer. The site claims “100+ international awards” with Gold at NYIOOC and Terraolivo but gives no years; the 2025 EVOO World Ranking places PDO Messara Bio and PDO Messara at #55 and #60 among Greek oils.
