The Governor — Olive Fabrica

Spyros and George Dafnis, third generation at Agios Matthaios in south-west Corfu, started in 2010 with 2,000 abandoned trees and now farm 12,000, a hundred to five hundred years old, of Lianolia Kerkyras — a variety the island otherwise sends to bulk. The family’s own mill also presses for about a hundred local growers. The Governor is picked in the first weeks of October and bottled unfiltered, hand-numbered, seven to nine thousand bottles a year; phenol figures come from WOCH analyses and are published by the brand. Its competition run was strongest in 2013–2020.

The estate

Non-irrigated groves; DIO organic certification by the UK brand site; hectares not published. The Premium Edition is the same fruit picked a little later, 1,174 mg/kg total phenols by the same analysis.

Great Taste one star in 2026 and a NYIOOC Silver in 2020 are the recent results we could trace; the brand claims a hundred international awards without itemising them, and it does not appear in Athena’s 2025 or 2026 lists.
