Biolea Astrikas Estate Organic
The estate oil of Crete’s stone-mill holdout: Koroneiki from the Dimitriadis family’s groves at Astrikas, crushed under modernised granite stones and pressed on hydraulic presses with stainless-steel filters, the way the island did it before centrifuges. Organic with BioHellas since 1993, PDO-certified annually and carrying an EU 432/2012 claim, all by the producer. “A unique fruitiness, notes of tomato, nuts and wild herbs and a pleasant spicy aftertaste”, in its own words; elsewhere it calls the oil mild and sweet. No recent competition result and no producer-published polyphenol figure — a retailer’s NMR number for one lot is not reproduced here.
