Cretan Heritage
A family label from Kissamos at the western end of Crete, run by Michalis Cheretakis, whose groves at Sfakopigadi sit about a kilometre from the sea and whose fruit is milled the same day at Glykorizia. Two varieties, two lines: Krissa is the Chania-native Tsounati, One Root the island’s workhorse Koroneiki, each with an organic twin. The producer publishes its ten processing rules — malaxation capped at 45 minutes, extraction around 27 °C — rather than its hectares or founding year.

The estate
The producer describes its land at Sfakopigadi of Kissamos as “2,500 acres” — almost certainly Greek stremmata, which would be about 250 hectares; the site does not say, and we have not converted it. Tree count is not published. The family traces the grove to the tenth century and its coat of arms to 981, by its own account.
Harvest runs October to January, picked “a bit earlier than specified”; the mill is the family’s own, a two-phase line with stainless steel throughout, malaxation at most 45 minutes, extraction averaging 27 °C and never above 30 °C. Each batch gets a chemical and a panel analysis, the producer states. The shop lists One Root as PDO/PGI; no producer, competition or reseller source names a designation, so we do not.
