Marina Palusci

A family estate in the clay hills of Pianella, in the province of Pescara, built around Dritta — the local olive that is grown almost nowhere else — on trees that range from forty to more than four hundred and fifty years old. Olives are hand-picked, cold-extracted within twelve hours and decanted naturally under inert gas.

The estate

Groves on clay and clay-limestone soils at roughly 280 m, between the Gran Sasso massif and the Adriatic. Dritta dominates, with Leccino as the blending partner and a forty-year-old block of Leccio del Corno for the late-harvest Alchimia. The oldest Dritta trees, which go into L’Uomo di Ferro, are stated to be 450 years and older.

Harvest starts in the last week of September for the green bottlings and runs to late November for Alchimia. Fruit is cold-processed within twelve hours of picking; the oils rest in tanks under inert gas at controlled temperature. Polyphenol and acidity figures are the producer’s own.
